Course Details


This course is designed to introduce participates with the concept and increase their knowledge about Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation and its application. In addition to learning about Alberta OHS legislation, this course touches on and identifies the matrix of legislation that also can also be affected by worker safety. These include employment standards, and the criminal code. Registrants will each receive a copy of the Queen’s Printer’s Occupational Health and Safety Handbook (Blue Book) to take with them after completing the course.

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives for this course are:

  1. Understand how the OHS legislation is integrated with other provincial/ federal legislation including employment standards and Canadian criminal code.
  2. Increase the participant’s knowledge on OHS legislation in Alberta
  3. Learn about the structure and contents of Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation and Code and how to use the legislation book.

Who should take the course?

Anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of workplace health and safety. 

Course Prerequisite

There are no prerequisites recommended for this course.

Duration: 3.5 hours

Please note: It is expected that all students will actively participate in the discussion and in class exercises to ensure that an understanding and learning objectives for the course are achieved. Minimum passing grade is 80%.
